Lance is a Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma member who makes his home in Wantagh, New York, among a very supportive community. His appeal for motion since he was a child readily translated into enthusiasm for engineering. Through hard work and determination, he secured a place at the University of Michigan’s College of Engineering for Fall 2023, concentrating in Mechanical Engineering.
As a dedicated lifeguard, Lance developed leadership skills with Nassau Country Department of Parks and New York State Park’s Jones Beach Lifeguard Corp. The most valuable leadership skill he learned is to remain calm and composed under high-stress conditions to ensure the best outcome. In high school, you could find Lance in the pool securing a spot at the Nassau County Championship, marching with the high school band, in the community supporting his fellow Boy Scouts with service projects, or at a local food pantry serving those in need. Lance also excelled academically, earning a regents degree with distinction and a 100.664 GPA.
In the future, Lance hopes to leverage his creativity to design vehicles to achieve maximum fun and amusement in the safest way possible. He plans to start through involvement in the SPARK Electric Racing Team at the University of Michigan to obtain firsthand experience designing and building electric vehicular technology. He dreams of creating an exhilarating, rip-roaring roller coaster for thrill seekers to enjoy and feel comfortable, not worrying about their safety. Other possibilities include designing recreational vehicles that combine fun, functionality, and security. He envisions utilizing acquired engineering knowledge and skills to overcome educational disparities and cultivate engineering-related skills through volunteering with underprivileged youth. This is the “legacy” Lance wants to set into “motion.”
