Miko is a citizen of the Chickasaw Nation and U.S. Navy veteran. In 2022, he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s in Forestry, Natural Resource Ecology, and Management with a minor in Soil Sciences. During his undergraduate studies, he was a student leader at Oklahoma State University’s (OSU) Center for Sovereign Nations, teaching visitors about Tribal sovereignty and connecting Native students with resources.
He is a graduate student in the Environmental Science Graduate Program at OSU, working on a collaborative project with the Chickasaw Nation. Miko works to preserve his culture by speaking the language and playing stickball for the Chickasaw Nation’s competitive team, Chikasha Toli. Additionally, he works part-time for the Chickasaw Nation as the Nation’s Fire Ecologist, focusing on fire’s traditional ecological role in our landscape and assisting in the Chickasaw Nation Reserved Treaty Rights Lands (RTRL) program.
