I attended Seymour Community High School where I graduated top 10 of my class with a 3.97 GPA. In high school, I was very involved in extracurriculars and within my community, while also maintaining a rigorous course load that allowed me to enter college with 25 credits. In addition to my schooling, I have maintained regular employment since the age of 13. I have carried this hand-working and keep-busy mindset into college.
Currently, I am a senior at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, and completing my nuclear medicine technology degree at the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences in Rochester, MN.
This education and career path seemed perfect to me as it allowed me to continually learn through advancements in technology while maintaining the hands-on patient care I desired in a career. As I have taken courses in this degree and now have hands-on clinical experience, I have become even more passionate in my pursuit. I have gained invaluable experiences at the Mayo Clinic that have shaped me into the kind of technologist I had only dreamed of being before.
I look forward to the career ahead of me following graduation in August. I hope to one day pursue a higher level of education as I gain more experience in the field.
The Native Forward Scholars Fund has empowered me in numerous ways in supporting my financial freedom through college.
With the scholarship I received I have been able to make the most out of my clinical experience at the Nation’s #1 hospital. Along with dedicating more time to my studies overall, I am currently conducting research that I will present at the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Annual Meeting. This would not have been possible had I not received such a generous contribution to my education. I feel I can be fully committed to every part of my education and enjoy the few months I have left in the program.
Being a Native Foward scholar is one of the accolades I am most proud of. It is the direct result of the time and effort I have put in to uphold a high level of success. I hope to set an example for other Native college students, particularly in STEM, that the path will be hard work but rewarding. Following completing my degree, Native Forward has inspired me to offer opportunities/support to other students pursuing a higher education.
I look forward to continuing to succeed on behalf of the Native Forward program and proving that their investment in me was worth it.
