My name is Abigail Davidson. I am an enrolled member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. My hometown is Ashland, WI. I am a sophomore at Carthage College, majoring in Allied Health Science. I am in the 3+2 accelerated Master of Athletic Training program. I aim to become a certified athletic trainer and would love to work in collegiate athletics. For the past two years, I have worked in my college’s athletic training room, which has driven me to want to become an athletic trainer for a college. I would also love to be involved in Tribal athletics in any capacity, possibly as a coach. This past year, I have devoted much of my time to my brand-new club, the Native American Student Association. This has made me more passionate about advocacy for Native American rights and culture. I don’t want to lose this passion after college, so I hope to continue to be involved with my community during my professional career. I also enjoy being involved in all sorts of campus diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. I am the United Women of Color’s Vice President and secretary of the First Generation Student Organization. Fulfilling my passions while pursuing my academics has been a dream come true. One job I could obtain this past year was as a resident assistant. This job has helped me and taught me many things. I am very grateful I was selected and that I have been able to be a part of creating a community here on campus. This role has equipped me with vital skills that will help me long after college. I can’t wait to start my professional career after college, but I will definitely cherish these next three years in my undergraduate and master’s programs.

I am always encouraged in everything I do by being a Native American woman and first-generation college student. These titles show that I have worked through many obstacles to be where I am today. Being a Native Forward scholar means so much to me in so many things. It shows me that many people behind me support me other than myself and my family. Having support and encouragement as a college student is important to succeeding and striving for greatness. It also means I am acknowledged as a great student, leader, and person. This encourages me to want to continue doing everything I set my mind to and always want to do my best. I’m so honored to be a Native Forward scholar and happy that I am amongst so many.
